(Revised 7/28/2008
Would you rather be able to sue a health care provider for millions or would you rather have really affordable health, life, and disability insurance?
One
major problem/expense is the high cost of malpractice insurance that health care providers
(hospitals, clinics, doctors, nurses, technicians, staff, ambulances and crews, etc.) have to pay.
Let's face it, if you're seeking medical attention, something is going wrong. Sometimes it gets better and sometimes it just goes bad. When it does, there is always a lawyer around that is willing to settle out of court and make a huge profit for him/herself during your time of suffering. Insurance companies don't want to risk a huge verdict so they settle out of court and pass the cost on the health care providers and us.
Each year these health care providers save countless lives.
We should make a law prohibiting anyone from suing a health
care provider.
Two people are in a vehicle that gets hit by an uninsured drunk driver. Both are the primary income earners for their families. One is killed instantly and the other is severely injured. On the way to the hospital the ambulance slips on the ice and slides into the ditch. The patient dies a few minutes later.
Under the current system one family gets nothing, because there is probably nothing to get from the uninsured drunk driver. The other is eligibly for millions even thorough that person would have died before getting to the hospital even if the ambulance had not slid into the ditch.
Under my plan both families would be compensated by the life insurance policies based on their needs analysis.
While this option is currently available and high recommended, it is not currently an option for those who can't even afford health insurance.
